The Teddy Bear Hospital is a worldwide initiative which aims to reduce childhood anxiety about medical environments, procedures and professionals and to enhance the communication skills of health professionals when dealing with children. During a visit to Teddy Bear Hospital, children ‘consult’ with medical students about their ‘sick’ bear. This experience enhances the children’s understanding of their body and health care, and also reduces anxiety about their own visits to doctors and hospitals. Through this interaction the medical students learn how to relate to children - a critical skill for any health care professional; convey messages in simple language and deal with the unexpected.
The Teddy Bear Hospital has been contributing to the success of The Good Friday Appeal Kids Day Out since 2012, having raised over $120,000. Our goal for this weekends event is to raise over $20,000, we hope you enjoy the event and in doing so support the Good Friday Appeal.
